One of the most influential blues guitarists to come out of the state of Texas, Lightnin’ Hopkins’ unique fingerpicking guitar style would alternate single-note leads with rhythm and bass guitar, adding percussive elements by slapping or tapping the body of his guitar.

The 1960 album Lightnin’ presents him in a trio format backed by bassist Leonard Gaskin and drummer Samuel “Sticks” Evans.
